Why I'm not crowdfunding this

Before we get into this, I'd like to put this up front: I have nothing against crowdfunding, crowdfunding sites, people who rely on crowdfunding to create their projects, or people who back crowdfunded projects. I've put down money for plenty of projects on various sites, and with a few exceptions, I've been happy with the results.

Having said that, it's not for me. At least, it's not for this particular project. I'm a one-person operation, and I don't have the bandwidth to handle the sheer amount of bookkeeping and sourcing  involved in crowdfunding.

Would I love little "Cult of the Drive-in" physical goods as bonus offerings? Of course. I had even brainstormed a few: Movie ticket stubs, 3-D glasses, popcorn bags (sans popcorn), card decks, or even custom dice. But then reality sets in. Most of those would have a minimum order. I would need to not only raise the funds, but hope I didn't underestimate costs. Then I'd need to rely on third-party vendors to get the items in time.

And if the bottom falls out of any of that? I'm left with nothing to show for it, and multiple backers wondering where their stuff is. I would like the view outside my front window to not include torches and pitchforks.

If I put myself into future projects, or if there's ever a "Cult of the Drive-in 2nd Edition," maybe I'll put myself into crowdfunding mode, and you'll get those 3-D glasses.

"Cult of the Drive-In" will be downloadable through at least two different sites (Itch included), as well as bring a print-on-demand softcover (possibly DTRPG, Lulu, or both). This keeps my overhead low, and it keeps you from spending any money until you 100 percent know you'll get what you paid for.
